A report – Vishu Celebrations on Saturday, 16th April, 2011

The Annual Vishu Celebration at the Samaj was a roaring success, despite low attendance by members, thanks to Prof. RSS Mani. Prof. Mani took the lead and coordinated the entire program, including arranging for over 225 children, from various shelter homes and orphanage homes. A very absorbing Puppet Show was organized for their benefit. This was an instant hit ! Not only did the children enjoy every moment, but also the staff, guests and members.

Prof. Mani did well to introduce each of the shelter home / orphanage children to the audience and gave a brief background about them and about the assistance being rendered by the Samaj. The staff from the homes were felicitated and applauded for their wonderful efforts in managing the children and were given a gift of appreciation from the Samaj. Various donors who had supported these events were thanked with a small token of gratitude. They were impressed with the Samaj’s activities, especially the feeding of under-privileged children and giving them gifts.

The end of the evening saw the release of the third issue of ANUGRAHAM, an English magazine of Shree Mattham, of His Holiness Jagadaguru Badari Shankaracharya of Shakatapuram. The magazine was released by Subha and Dr. Kailas.

The children were treated to a sumptuous dinner, after which the guests and members had traditional Vishu Saddhi. The children were given special gift hampers, arranged and organized by Prof. Mani. The guests and members received Vishu Kanni, Rs. 5 coin, along with a gift. Most of the guests present were very eager to serve the children and they did so with enthusiasm and dedication. As usual, some of the Samaj members donated clothes for destitute homes, orphanages and charitable institutions.

Overawed by the occasion and seeing the beckoning smiles on the innocent faces of the children, there was a spontaneous suggestion to organize a picnic for them, along with Samaj members and donors, some time after October or November 2011. This idea was highly appreciated by all present and it brought great happiness to the children, who were jumping with joy !

Very special thanks are due to Mico Mohan for part-sponsoring the children’s dinner, Manisha Gadekar of Kids Edutainement for sponsoring the Puppet Show, Jayant Lapsia for arranging the children’s gift hampers and gifts for donors and Prof. Mani, Mr. Prakash Gangwani and Mr. Gerard Lobo for arranging the gift hampers for the staff. A special thanks to the management of the homes for sending their children and staff. Truly, one of the most satisfying evenings…
